Diversity & Inclusion

We are committed to developing and maintaining a culture of equality and diversity in the workplace

We wish to provide a supportive and welcoming workplace environment, which represents the communities and cultures within which we live and work. We have a huge diversity of talent from all walks of life, each with unique experiences and perspectives, all of whom can make a difference.

We believe in equal opportunities for all employees, regardless of race, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, or disability.

The committee develops and drives our D&I agenda globally to continue to attract and retain the talent, and continue to create an inclusive culture that values and supports every employee. In 2022, we recruited a dedicated Group Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager to lead and further drive our D&I agenda.

Our global principles

Diversity

Engage

Our business leaders across the Group agree to diversity priorities and build commitment.

Attract

Tap into a broader talent to hire diverse skills, experiences and perspectives

Develop

Identify our talent and provide opportunities and development for our people to grow

Inclusion

Conversation

Create opportunities for meaningful dialogue, listening and learning across the Group to build awareness and understanding of our differences.

Education

Enable and equip our people to understand, be comfortable with and leverage differences.

Collaboration

Leverage and activate different groups and perspectives across the business to create momentum and deliver our D&I plan.

All of Us: empowering employees to drive change

All of Us is a global employee initiative that was launched in 2022. We aim to have everyone at Howden pledge to take an action or start a project to help attract, retain and develop talent from all walks of life.

Pledges can be big or small, on behalf of an individual or a team. But they all strive to build a business we can all be proud of: open to all, diverse, inclusive and nurturing – a community in which everyone feels they belong.

We’ve since received pledges from 42 countries and counting. Through All of Us, employees around the world have, for example:

  • launched internships and mentor schemes
  • created school partnerships
  • assisted young people with CV writing and interview skills
  • hosted and attended D&I talks, roundtables and fireside chats
  • started schemes to aid employee mobility

Respect

Respect is an employee initiative with active volunteers across many Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) with the mission of making every employee feel valued and respected.

Respect's objectives are:

  • Disability
  • Women’s health
  • Parents at work

Gender pay gap

We are committed to reducing our gender pay gap by having transparency in how we recruit talent, along with how we recognise and develop talent.
