Howden launches International Medical Malpractice team in London

4th January 2008:  Howden, the leading independent Lloyd’s broker offering a range of specialist insurances and part of global insurance group Hyperion, today announced that it is building a team in London to further enhance its international reach and capabilities in medical malpractice, providing both wholesale and retail services to clients, specifically through Howden’s international offices.

Virginio Mercurio has been appointed a Director within Howden’s international division to build and lead this team. Virginio joins the London office from Howden’s Spanish operation, Howden Iberia, where he was previously a Director responsible for consolidating the reinsurance book and establishing a wholesale capability.  Virginio has over ten years’ experience of the insurance industry in a number of international territories, and is a specialist in medical malpractice.  He spent three years with Willis in the Global Markets International division developing the medical malpractice business across its European and Latin American markets.  Previous to that, Virginio led a team in Miami to establish an office for MBI International, focussing on medical malpractice and professional indemnity in Latin America markets.
